Four floods are recorded in the first 74 years between 1891 and 1965. 13 floods are recorded in the second 74 years between 1966 and 2018.
Gardiners Creek is an URBAN CATCHMENT with the number and severity of flood events increasing over time due to more paving in the catchment area – e.g. new roads, carparks, roofs. This causes faster run off of water into Gardiners Creek.
The Gardiners Creek catchment area extends into the cities of Monash and Whitehorse in addition to Boroondara and Stonnington. Blackburn Lake and Chadstone Shopping Centre are both within the Gardiners Creek catchment area.
