MEETING POINT:
The meeting point for both the monthly and weekly working bees is the two picnic tables towards the northern end of Glenburn Bend Park, adjacent to the gravel path that runs closest to west side of Gardiners Creek.

This is about halfway between Great Valley Road and High Street, GLEN IRIS and
halfway between the Monash Freeway and Gardiners Creek.

MELWAY REFERENCE: Map 59 towards the south-east corner of Grid J7

Our site is located very close to Glen Iris railway station and the Glen Iris terminus of the Number 6 tram. Many of our planting volunteers travel by public transport to get to our site.
We recommend the PTV Journey Planner.

"One of Saving Suburbia's goals this year is to establish a relationship with another group that shares similar goals and aims to work together in our Work Parties. The beginning of this connection happened in March when Stage III had their first Saving Suburbia Work Party at Glenburn Bend Park in Glen Iris. It was a successful event, with 8 Stage III’s and Paul working alongside the Friends of Gardeners Creek Group to weed, clean up and place weed preventing matting in the park. Also worthy of note was helping clear dead branches off a National Trust protected tree affected by recent storms."      C h r i s   B a t e s   2013

        How you can help:
      1.   Participate as an individual, family or group of friends at one of our advertised working bees with a view to becoming a participating member. (Membership is $10 per financial year, per household.) It helps if you can let us know in advance when you will be attending. You will need to be over 18 or with a parent or guardian (if under 18) to be able to sign in for the FoGCV insurance cover.
      2.   Participate as an individual, family or group of friends at one of our advertised FoGCV Commumity Planting Days to do some planting. RSVP is required via Planet Ark. Lunch is usually provided at these events. Check the event details registered at Planet Ark for each event. The FoGCV Community Planting Days are usually very popular so register early. We often have to cap the number of attendees who can come a few days before the event. You will need to be 18 and above or with a parent (if under 18) to be able to sign in for the Planet Ark insurance cover.
      3.   Participate as a group (educational, community or corporate), at a specially scheduled event, by arrangement with the President of FoGCV.
      4.   Grow plants for us. All materials can be provided and and friendly instruction is available at our regular working bees.
      5.   Become a passive member (Membership is $10 per financial year, per household). Keeping our membership above 50 households enables our Gift Fund to keep operating with its tax deductability status. We currently have about 65 members and distribute two newsletters per annum to financial members.
      6.   Make a donation to our Gift Fund (Amounts over $2 are tax deductable).
      7.   Photographs of local wildlife and local plants are always welcome for this website. Credits will be given to the copyright holders. (A local university student and keen  photographer is currently redeveloping our Gardiners Creek Indigenous Plant List web page.)
      8.   If you are a local bird photographer, we would love to include a bird information page on this website. Please contact us if you are interested in providing photos and/or copy for this project.
